Release of the second NCAER Land Record & Services Index N-LRSI 2021

NCAER released its second NCAER Land Record and Services Index (N-LRSI) 2021, revealing that almost all States/Union Territories have shown an improvement in their efforts to digitize land records compared to the previous year. Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the top performer for the second year in a row, followed by West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. While Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have maintained their positions, West Bengal has moved up four ranks, from rank six to two. Odisha and Maharashtra, which ranked second and third in N-LRSI 2020, has fallen by one rank each to take up rank three and four in this year’s index.

New Delhi (Tuesday, November 27, 2020): The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) organised the first India Land Forum 2020 (ILF 2020) during November 24-27. Subtitled “Data-driven Research & Evidence for Land Policy in India”, the four-day, virtual ILF 2020 featured original papers on India by land researchers and NCAER’s own research based on a unique, state-wise data set that NCAER has put together in compiling the N-Land Records and Services Index released in February, 2020.

NCAER hosted Malcolm Childress of the Global Land Alliance and Anna Locke of the Overseas Development Institute to share the findings of their just–released Prindex global assessment of perceived tenure security. To discuss the implications of the Prindex findings for India and the country’s own, long-standing quest for more secure property and land rights, they were joined by Jagdeesh Rao Puppala of the Foundation for Ecological Security, Pranab Ranjan Choudhury of the Center for Land Governance, and Shashanka Bhide of NCAER. Shekhar Shah, NCAER’s Director General, moderated the discussion.

Release of the first edition of NCAER Land Record Services Index (N-LRSI)

NCAER, released its new Land Records and Services Index (N-LRSI 2020), on Thursday, 27th February, 2020. The N-LRSI assesses the extent of digitisation of land records and the quality of these land records in the States and UTs of India. Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Tamil Nadu emerged as the top States in the N-LRSI 2020.

Release of NCAER-State Investment Potential Index: The 2018 N-SIPI

NCAER released the State Investment Potential Index (N-SIPI 2018) at a workshop inaugurated by Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). Covering 20 States and Delhi, this is the third edition of the annual N-SIPI released by NCAER that ranks states’ on their competitiveness in business and their investment climate.

Enhancing the Impact of Government Efforts to Modernize India's Land Records

A three-institution study of the modernization of land records in three Indian States was released at an event held at the India International Centre, today. The study recommends a number of reforms that could help to improve property records and services, enhance the impact of computerizing land records, and potentially reduce land related litigation in India.

Malcolm Adiseshiah Mid-Year Review of the Indian Economy, 2016-17

NCAER presented the 2016-17 Mid Year Review of Indian Economy at a seminar held in New Delhi. The review presents the most comprehensive, independent assessment of the Indian economy as the Indian Government and its Ministry of Finance begin preparation of the FY 2017-18 Union Budget. Dr Pronab Sen, Country Director, International Growth Centre’s India Central Programme chaired the Review.

Land Economics: Issues and Challenges

This one day workshop brought together a number of practicing urban planners and economists, policy analysts and researchers from both the government and academic institutions to explore and identify possible areas of priority research in land economics and urbanisation in India, including land supply, demand, land valuation and pricing, regulation, and the role of the private sector.
