Non-resident Senior Fellow

Indira Iyer is a macro-fiscal and development economist with cross-organisational experience in the government, international organisations, academia and research institutions. She is currently a Research Professor of International Affairs at the George Washington University. Till recently, she was a Professor at NCAER leading projects on direct tax reforms, infrastructure investments, and gender issues.  Prior to this, Indira was the Chief Director of Research at the Tax Policy Research Unit (TPRU) in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and has also served on various national and international committees on e-commerce and taxation. Indira had earlier worked at NCAER as a Senior Fellow working on development issues as well as the macro-fiscal impact of public expenditure and investment policies.  

Indira is a former member of the Indian Revenue Service, and has also consulted for the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation on tax policy, public expenditure management, fiscal decentralization and national poverty alleviation strategies.
