Re-imagining Data Systems as if Women Counted

After decades of feminist advocacy, it is now accepted as a part of conventional wisdom that all data collection systems should provide gender-disaggregated data. However, this ‘add gender and stir’ approach often fails to capture data that is critical for developing gender-friendly policies, especially data on care responsibilities, access to public spaces, and, discrimination in employment. NCAER organised a discussion on re-imagining data systems from a gendered perspective to celebrate International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022.

    
Tracking Lives and Livelihoods through the Pandemic

How have the lives of residents of Delhi and other areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) changed over the past two years since the advent of COVID? NCAER National Data Innovation Centre (NCAER-NDIC) team discussed results from the Delhi Metropolitan Area Study (DMAS), which interviewed residents from Delhi-NCR in 2019, before the onset of the pandemic, and has continued to follow their lives since then, as they have struggled to protect their health and livelihoods, and to educate their children through the biggest global crisis of our generation.

This talk was delivered by Frauke Kreuter, Professor of Statistics and Data Science for the Social Sciences and Humanities at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich (Germany) and Professor at the Joint Program in Survey Methodology at the University of Maryland. K.S. James from the International Institute for Population Sciences and Soumya Bhaduri from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) were the discussants.

Round 4: Delhi NCR Coronavirus Telephone Survey

NCAER hosted Sonalde Desai and Santanu Pramanik from its National Data Innovation Centre to share the results of Round 4 of its Delhi NCR Coronavirus Telephone Survey (DCVTS-4) launched on December 23, 2020 and completed on January 4, 2021. NCAER Director General Shekhar Shah moderated the discussion.

    
Round 3: NCAER'S Delhi NCR Coronavirus Telephone Survey: From Lockdowns to Lifting Restrictions

NCAER hosted Sonalde Desai and Santanu Pramanik from its National Data Innovation Centre to share the results of Round 3 of its rapid response Delhi NCR Coronavirus Telephone Survey (DCVTS-3) launched on June 15 and completed on June 23. NCAER Director General Shekhar Shah moderated the discussion. DCVTS-3 builds on DCVTS-1, fielded during April 3-6 (results released April 12), and DCVTS-2, fielded April 23-26 (results released May 1).


First Results: NCAER's Delhi NCR Coronavirus Telephone Survey

NCAER hosted a webinar by Sonalde Desai, Santanu Pramanik, and Dinesh Tiwari from its National Data Innovation Centre to share the results of its rapid response representative telephone survey in the Delhi NCR. The survey launched on April 3, 2020, 10 days after the lockout started was completed on April 6, 2020. The discussion attended by over 150 participants was moderated by Shekhar Shah.
