| Following upon a
meeting of NCAER's General Body on April 7, 2008, Nandan
M. Nilekani has been elected President of the National
Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER). He has
taken over from Bimal Jalan on April 15, 2008. Bimal Jalan
has held this position since 1998 when he succeeded
Ratan Tata. Mr. Nilekani will be the eighth President of
this premier research institution, which recently
celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
Nandan Nilekani was one of the founders of Infosys,
one of the firms which put India in the forefront of the
IT revolution. He is at present Co-Chairman of Infosys
Technologies Limited. He is also a co-founder of India's
National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM).
In 2006, Mr. Nilekani was conferred the Padma Bhushan,
one of the highest civilian honors awarded by the
Government of India. In 2005, Mr. Nilekani was the first
Indian to be awarded the prestigious Joseph Schumpeter
prize for innovative services in the field of economy,
economic sciences and politics. A more detailed profile
