"As
indicated in last year’s
Annual Report, 2006-07 was
celebrated as NCAER’s
Golden Jubilee. The
special NCAER crest
designed for the occasion
has once again been used
in this year’s Annual
Report."
"The Council
continued to maintain a
significant work programme
in the area of
international trade,
particularly on India's
bilateral and multilateral
trade negotiations. We are
indebted to the Ministry
of Commerce for entrusting
us with a number of
academic studies in these
areas. In addition,
individual Council staff
have participated as
members of official
teams to Japan, China and
the Doha Development
Round. India- China trade
was the subject of a study
of the implications of
opening up trade with
China at the Nathu-La Pass
as also a study on a more
comprehensive bilateral
trade agreement. Our
assistance to Ministry of
Commerce in assessing the
implications of
agricultural trade
policies has also
continued."
"With the
Golden Jubilee celebration
behind us, our energies
are engaged in chalking
out fresh directions for
the NCAER in the exciting
period ahead. The broad
directions are clear: a
need to modernise our
physical infrastructure,
professionalise our survey
capacity, raise our
endowment income,
strengthen our review and
quality assurance
mechanisms and invest
substantially more in
communication and
dissemination. The last
fifty years have shown the
NCAER to be a flexible
institution able to
respond to new
circumstances. These
attributes will be needed
even more in the future."
